IAAI was officially established on June 1996 on a simple charter to promote social, cultural, educational, and humanitarian activities . It is a secular, non-profit, non-political organization. Today, the IAAI has around 150 active members. |

The IAAI objectives are: |
- To promote social interaction among the Iraqi American Communiy In the state of Illinois.
- To encourage professional networking among the Iraqi American Communiy in IIllinois, other staes, other countries.
- To Provide educational opportunities for youth of Iraqi origin and the wider American Communiy to learn more about the rich Iraqi heritage and culture.
- To encourage contact and cooperation between member of the Association and other organization in the United States and abroad, which have mutual interests.
- To Provide assistance to the needy member of the Iraqi communiy.

The IAAI have three categories of membership: active, associate, and honorary.
The amount of the annual dues is $50 for family and $30 per single. The annual term of membership begins on January 1 each calendar year and ends on December 31. Active and Associate members pay their respective dues. Honorary Members need not pay dues.All members are expected to update their current address in order to remain on the association’s mailing list. |
